Does a 12th century monk still walk the halls of the historic Wakefield Cathedral?
Mark Vernon claims that he not only saw but heard the spirit of a 12th century monk while investigating the Wakefield Cathedral located in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. Vernon was recording inside the historic structure during the daylight hours when the church is open. He says he heard the words, “I’m here” spoken in a high pitched voice, as he saw a mass move in front of his camera lens. “I was investigating it for 40 minutes- I caught a ghost, a shadow man, walking past my camera in broad daylight” Vernon stated.
Vernon claims that the form is that of Father Daniel, a monk who served at the Cathedral during the 12th century. The information concerning the identity of the apparition was provided by a group of spirits with which Vernon works with frequently and who assists him with uncovering information concerning haunted locations that would otherwise be lost to time.
Vernon is a self proclaimed paranormal addict and says he is a clairaudient, meaning he possesses the ability to hear sounds which are beyond those that ordinary individuals can experience, such as the voices of the dead. He states that he has been investigating the paranormal for approximately 35 years and holds the claim of discovering, with the aid of his brother, the most housed location in Wakefield.
While there is no way to confirm that a Father Daniel ever worked within the Cathedral, the structure has been part of the Yorkshire landscape for centuries. The site was originally the home for a Saxon church, which would have been constructed in the 7th century A.D. It is known that a portion of the current structure was completed in 1090, as it was recorded in the Doomsday Book, an early way for taxes and property holding to be traced throughout Britain.
Wakefield Cathedral is currently undergoing renovations, which Vernon feels is one of the reasons that Father Daniel is making himself know. As part of the renovations, the church is installing a Saxon cross as a way of paying homage to their role in the conversion to Christianity in Britain. Perhaps, Father Daniel also wants his role to be known as well as that he is still there working in his parish.

It would be great if the photo, supposedly of the shadow person, could be enlarged. I can’t make out anything in its present size.
